Nutritional value of mangosteen

The fruit of a small, slow growing evergreen tree that is native to Malaysia. When ripe, the fruits have a brownish-purple color and are from 1.5 to 3 inch in diameter.

Mangosteen fruit weight varies between 75-120 g and fruits contain 2-3 well developed seeds.

About 25-30 percent of the fruit consists of the edible pulp or aril; the components of the pulp are: 19,8 percent soluble solids, 4,3 percent reducing sugar, 17.5 percent total sugar, 0.5 percent protein, 0,23 percent ash and 0.49 percent acid. The arils have a pleasant taste and flavor.

The nutritional value of hundred grams of mangosteen is 73 kcal of energy, 0.56  g of fat, vitamin B6, riboflavin and B1, folic acid, along with trace metals like magnesium, iron, phosphorus, manganese, potassium, calcium and 0.42 protein.
