Technically, any liquid intended for drinking is a beverage so named by a word derived from French and Latin verbs meaning ‘to drink.’ Healthy beverages are beverages with health benefits that attribute by its nutritional value. The use of healthy beverage for promoting health and relieving symptom is as old as the practice of medicine.

Grapefruit juice

Grapefruit juice is consumed by one fifth of American families, endorsed by the American Heart Association, rich in vitamin C and often fortified with supplemental calcium.

The adult requirements of vitamin C is 1000 IU and in 3.5 oz of grapefruit juice, more than half this amount will be found. Vitamin C can prevent scurvy and is such a valuable blood purifier.

It is also credited with cancer fighting capabilities due to its high vitamin C content.

A major unique component of grapefruit juice is the flavonoid, naringen. It can make up to 10% of the dry weight of the juice and is responsible for the bitter taste.

Red grapefruit also contain lycopene, a phytochemical that helps lower the risk of prostate cancer.

It is most helpful in checking the tendency to put on weight, and when taken last thing at night it aids in inducing sleep.

It contains galacturonic acid, the juice has been found to lower blood vessels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol, a substance known to contribute to heart diseases.
