Technically, any liquid intended for drinking is a beverage so named by a word derived from French and Latin verbs meaning ‘to drink.’ Healthy beverages are beverages with health benefits that attribute by its nutritional value. The use of healthy beverage for promoting health and relieving symptom is as old as the practice of medicine.

What are the health benefits of cabbage juice?

A super nutritious vegetable, cabbage is crispy and has a mildly bitter flavor. Green, red white and purple varieties are all available.

Cabbage juice helps to detoxify the body of harmful chemicals from the air and food additives. Studies have found that raw cabbage juice is very effective in treating peptic ulcers, probably due to cabbage’s high content of glutamine, an amino acid that has anti-inflammatory properties.

Phytonutrients in the cabbage juice protect the body from free radicals which are cancer causing agents in the body.

Cabbage juice contains vitamin C, K and B6.  It is high in sulphur, iron iodine and is a rich source of vitamin C. It loads with vitamin E and calcium, and very high in anticancer compounds such as dithiolthiones and indoles. Other compounds that help fight cancer including dindolylmethane, sinigrin, lupeol, and sulforaphane.

Although cabbage juice helps with stomach problems such as ulcers, constipation and colitis, it should not be drunk along, as it may cause the gastric juices in the stomach to over-react.

Drinking tea inhibits cancer

Tea is a beverage made from the leaves of Camellia sinensis species of the Theaceae family. Tea has long been tied to a lower risk of stomach, colon and breast cancer, although the connection is not proven.

In June 1, 1994 Journal of The National Cancer Institute published the result of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly 60 percent.

Now lab studies find that tea chemicals actually may stop cancer growth. Rutgers University researchers showed that a compound in black tea called TF-2 caused colorectal cancer cells to "commit suicide"; normal cells were unaffected.

Scientific research shows that regular tea drinking, especially green and white tea, inhibits colon, breast, prostate, lung, melanoma, ovarian and bladder cancer.

The phytochemicals in tea suppress signaling molecules needed for cancer cell reproduction and block enzymes needed for tumor invasion – inhibiting the cancer process.

Tea and its polyphenols induce certain enzymes, such as glucuronosyl transferase, that detoxify carcinogens. Green tea extract EGCG (Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate) has been shown to inhibit hormone sensitive cancers, such as breast and prostate cancer.

Of importance also is that tea decreases the growth of neoplastic cells, but not of normal cells.

It is also important to note that tea enhances apoptosis, a phenomenon of elimination do cancer cells.

Coffee and cancer

Coffee is widely consumed worldwide, and is substantial evidence from both laboratory and animal studies suggest its ability to reduce the risk of cancer.

Cancer is one of the most feared diseases. The carcinogenic potential of coffee has been investigated in several long term animal bioassays.

Studies suggest those who enjoy a cup of coffee every day or nearly daily have a lower risk for liver cancer than those who rarely sip a cup.

Feeding high levels of coffee as part of the diet did not produce tumors in either rats or mice (Nehling & Debry 1996).

On the contrary, some studies reported that instant coffee resulted in a decreased incidence of spontaneous tumors (Stadler 1990). The presence of antioxidants in coffee can explain the anticancer property of the beverage, but there are other compounds which might be involved.

According to the scientists, caffeine and caffeic acid, major coffee constituents have been shown to suppress mammary tumor formation in animal models and to inhibit DNA methylation in human breast cancer cells, respectively.

Coffee may also reduce risk through decreasing inflammation and influencing estrogen metabolism.

Research by National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, North Carolina reported that cafestol and kahweol, which are naturally occurring diterpenes in coffee, have proved to have anti-carcinogenic properties.

What are the benefits of apple juice?

Apple juice is a valuable aid to digestion and when taken on empty stomach tends to stimulate the activities of the lower intestines.

Unfiltered apple juice is rich in malic acid, potassium, pectins and enzymes. These act as solvents to soften and help remove debris such small stones and cleanse the body.

Apple juice is very beneficial in the case of fevers and inflammatory troubles. It is refreshing in hot days and satisfying in cool weather.

When drinking apple juice or eating apple, don’t forget the peel. Apple peels have been found to have potent antioxidant activity and can greatly inhibit the growth of liver cancer and colon cancer.

The research from Cornell University indicated that apples can protect the brain from oxidative damage that triggers neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

The juice of course should be made from fresh ripe, sound apples. The canning and concentrating processes destroy many of its most valuable properties.

Vegetable juice and cancer

Diets rich in fruits and vegetables were found to be protective against the risks of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and chronic inflammation. The consumption of vegetable and vegetable juices is recommended as very helpful against cancer.

Cancer cells suck the vital nutrients from the body thereby causing death of the patients.

Cancer cells can start in any part of the body and each particular part of the body produces a specific and different type of cancer. Two most potent contributing factors to cancer are environmental toxins and poor diet.

Vegetable juice provides a variety of anticancer benefits. These include the ability of the various nutrients juices contain to neutralize toxic substances known as carcinogens, which act as triggers for cancer.

For example the researcher said that D-glucaric acid, a phytochemical found in broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower, has shown down evidence in several clinical studies of reducing the incidence of cancers of the breast, lung, liver and skin.

Chemical sulforaphane in broccoli triggers enzymes that break down cancer-causing chemicals and allow them to be flushed from the body.

The juice of collard greens, turnip greens and Swiss card, makes the body less acidic and more alkaline and the cancer cells cannot thrive in an alkaline environment.

The green chlorophyll in this juice enables the red blood cells to circulate a lot more oxygen at the cellular level and oxygen enhances healthy cells while suppressing cancer cells.

Tea and Cancer

Tea and Cancer
Most of the on cancer chemoprevention by tea has been conducted using green tea or its individual polyphenolic constituents.

Less work has been reported on black tea.

In animal studies, the polyphenolic fraction isolated from green tea. The water extract of green tea, or individual polyphenolic antioxidants present in green tea have afforded protection against chemically induced carcinogenesis in the lung, liver, esophagus, forestomach, duodenum, pancreas, colon, and breast.

The raises possibility that green tea consumption and its associated catechins may lower cancer risk in humans.

Studies have shown that green tea intake increases the excretion of a class of carcinogens known as heterocyclic arylamines formed during the cooking of meat, poultry and fish; this is expected to reduce DNA adduct formation, in particular and carcinogenesis, in general.

Consumption of both green and black tea aqueous extracts influences the excretion of mutagens and promutagens in the urine of animals.

Several epidemiological studies suggest that tea and its associated compounds may prevent some, but not all, cancers.

This is understandable, because cancer is a complex disease with multiple etiologies, even for one body site.

It is, therefore a false hope that any nutritional or synthetic agent can prevent or treat all cancer types.

However, based on a large volume of cell culture, animal studies and human observational studies, there is hope that green tea consumption can retard cancer development at selected sites in some populations.

The challenge is to elucidate what cancer type can be prevented by tea. This requires extensive research for which considerable resources are required.

Papaya Leaf Juice

Papaya Leaf Juice
The papaya leaf contains beta-carotene, calcium, carpaine, fats, flavonols, niacin, papain, tannins, and vitamin C (in higher concentration in the leaf than in the fruit). The leaf, unlike the fruit, is not a source of the protein-dissolving enzyme papain, but the latex (sap) in the leaf stem is. Papain remains in leaf preparations that have been dried over low heat, but it may be destroyed in products that are dried at high heat.

Use even medium size papaya leaves – not very old ones and not too young. The leaves should be washed thoroughly and partly dried. Cut them and put them in a saucepan together with 2 liters of water.

Bring the water and leaves to the boil and simmer (without a lid) until the water is reduced by half.

Strain the liquid and bottle in glass container. The concentrate will keep in the refrigerator for three to four days. If it becomes cloudy it should be discarded. The recommended dosage in the original recipe is 50 ml three times a day.

Health benefits for treatment of cancer, papaya leaf juice is claimed to have reversed cancer in many people living on the Gold Coast in Australia.

There is also news that papaya leaf juice can help reduce dengue fever.

Papaya leaf juice aids in the breakdown and metabolism of protein, exhibits anti-ulcer activity and helps to relieve indigestion. Papaya leaf contains the powerful proteolytic enzymes, papain and chymopapain, which digest proteins, small peptides, amides and esters. Their activity extends to carbohydrate and fat, and they are said to be more effective than naturally- occurring proteases like pepsin and trypsin. Since stomach ailments are often the direct result of indigestion, papaya leaf juice may help prevent and remedy these by increasing digestive processes, as the digestive properties of papain are well established.
